There’s something really special happening at The Onion Pub on Saturday night. It only happens once a year and we’re all invited. The coolest part about it is that, if you come to this party, you’ll be helping 23 Barrington agencies pay for 38 programs that help all kinds of area people in need. From youth services to senior services, from job search assistance to activities for the developmentally disabled, if you come to this party, you’re contributing to them all via the Barrington Area United Way. Remember those painted horses that decorated every street corner in town last year?

Last year’s “Roundup” auction was the Barrington Area United Way’s 50th anniversary celebration. This year’s fundraiser also celebrates the arts and it’s happening at the Onion Pub on Saturday night, November 6th, from 7-10PM.

The event is called “Sample the Arts” and 25 local artists will be present as their works are auctioned to raise money for Barrington Area United Way programs. These are the artists who’ve have had their works on display at businesses throughout Barrington for the past few weeks. And on Saturday night, you’ll be able to meet these artists as you view their works.  How cool is that?  BAUW Executive Director, Leslie Luther-Jeschke says, “We found ‘The Roundup’ as an opportunity to celebrate the community through art and this year we decided to make it more accessible by having area artists show their work at Barrington businesses.” This weekend’s “Sample the Arts” auction is the Barrington Area United Way’s signature event of the year and their goal for 2010 is to raise $400,000 for local agencies.

But they need our help to meet that goal and all we have to do is come to the party. The tickets are on sale now and the cost is $85 per ticket. There will be an open bar and food, a live performance and a lively auction. And it’s a great way to meet your neighbors and check out The Onion Pub at the same time! You can purchase tickets by clicking HERE and you can learn more about the Barrington Area United Way at BAUW.org.  They’ll also be selling tickets at the door.  And The Onion Pub, a favorite Barrington hot spot, is located at 22221 Pepper Road in Lake Barrington.  You can read more about the popular restaurant and brewery on their website at OnionPub.com.

I also asked Barrington Area United Way Executive Director, Leslie Luther-Jeschke, what’s she’s most thankful for this year and about her favorite Thanksgiving memory and I love what she had to say:

Leslie Luther-Jeschke and the Barrington Area United Way“I am most thankful for my family and friends, and the opportunity to make a small difference in the lives of those in need in our community through my United Way work.” Her favorite Thanksgiving memory? “Thanksgiving on the coast of Maine with my family, the salt air and a warm fire!” This is a photo of Leslie and her daughter, Kirsten, during that Thanksgiving trip to Maine. Sometimes the best family memories are made on those rare and special days when you come together at a home away from home.

Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving memory, Leslie. I look forward to catching up with you Saturday at The Onion Pub! Click HERE for one more look at that link where you can buy your tickets. Hope to see you there!
