A Chicago neighborhood hot spot is opening for business in Barrington TODAY to offer a new place for us to find fresh local produce while shopping outdoors. The Green Grocer is debuting a seasonal open air market this morning at the Arboretum of South Barrington and their colorful fruits and veggies are just waiting to come home to your table.
The new Produce Market will be a great place to pop in and pick up essential grocery items, lunch to go, the ingredients for a fresh and delicious dinner, fresh flowers or a gift for a friend who loves unique and hard-to-find food items.
Green Grocer is a popular Chicago neighborhood produce market and they’re opening for business here in Barrington to bring us locally produced food products and specialty items. The company has relationships with a variety of Midwestern farmers and producers and that means fresher food for your table, one of Green Grocer’s primary goals.
“While produce that is purchased in the supermarket or a big-box store has been in transit or cold-stored for days or weeks, produce that you purchase at your local farmer’s market has often been picked within 24 hours of your purchase. This freshness not only affects the taste of your food, but the nutritional value which declines with time.”
Green Grocer’s open-air market will set up under a tent weekly at The Arboretum of South Barrington from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, starting today and running through the end of October. Because everybody knows the early bird gets the worm, the first 15 shoppers to mention “ARB” at the produce market each Saturday will receive and Arboretum gift card!
