Do you live or work in Cook County? Do you have questions about how our tax dollars are spent? Are you curious about the changes in store now that there’s a new Cook County Board President at the helm? Well, get this. The new woman on top, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, will be visiting Barrington on Monday of next week to talk about her plans for the county and answer our questions. It’s a rare opportunity to meet one of the key players in Cook County government, right in our own back yard! A great turnout will send a message that Barrington cares and is paying attention to county business, but there are only a few more hours left to RSVP.

Ms. Preckwinkle was elected last November and sworn in last December as the first woman elected president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners. She succeeds Todd Stroger, whose family occupied a seat on the Cook County Board for 40 years. At the outset, Ms. Preckwinkle made a promise to repeal her predecessor’s sales tax increase. She also warned that her first county budget will include some big cuts to begin easing the county’s $478 million budget deficit.

But what does this mean to the people in Barrington? This is our chance to find out, face-to-face! Board President Preckwinkle will be the featured guest speaker at an economic forum hosted by the Barrington Chamber of Commerce at The Garlands of Barrington Performing Arts Center next Monday, June 6th. Chamber board president, Janet Meyer says, “The sense that I am getting from people is that Barringtonians who work and live on the Cook County side want to get to know and understand her, where our tax dollars go and what her key initiatives are. The hope is that she’ll talk about balancing the budget, being a fiscal Steward and creating jobs, hence bringing municipal revenue to our villages.” Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is also sponsoring the event.

The forum starts at noon next Monday, June 6th, with registration, a deli buffet, table discussions and an opportunity to network with others in Barrington. They’ll be introducing and welcoming Ms. Preckwinkle at about 12:45 and she’ll be speaking and taking questions until about 1:30. The forum will be moderated by Cook County Board Commissioner, Gregg Goslin and the cost is $20 per ticket or $140 for a table of 8.

But here’s the kicker. The Chamber needs your reservations by 1PM today, Friday, June 3rd, so they can let the Garland’s know how many people to expect. To sign up, just call the Chamber offices at 847-381-2525. Or you can print and fill out the registration form which you’ll find by clicking this link:
