There’s a new art event happening at 12 locations in Barrington this week leading up to Sunday’s Easter Celebration.  It’s called the Passion Art Walk and 12 artists have been commissioned to create works depicting the biblical story of Jesus carrying the cross in the final hours leading up to the crucifixion.

In a display similar to of the Stations of the Cross, each commissioned artist was asked to interpret the actions of the HANDS at 12 points of the Passion story.  They include the Praying Hands in the garden, Betraying Hands of Judas taking the coins, Denying Hands of Peter and Christ’s Resurrection Hands.

There’s a special event scheduled for the 11th Station, guests will see the “Passion Hands” of the Easter story with a live performance and film showing at The Catlow Theater this Saturday, March 30th.

ftr_passionofthechristThe Catlow will be showing the film, The Passion of The Christ at noon on Saturday.

Just before the movie, the band, Citizen Way, will greet guests and perform live.

Citizen Way is a Christian Contemporary-Rock band from Elgin made up of two sets of brothers.  They’ll be performing their hit-single, Should’ve Been Me.  The song was released last summer and has earned spots on numerous Christian song charts.

Tickets to attend both the movie and live performance cost $5 and they’re available to purchase at The Catlow, participating stores and participating churches.  Here’s Citizen Way’s Should’ve Been Me video for a little background music as you read on for more details about this week’s Passion Art Walk.

One of the event organizers, Christine Gunn-Danforth, works with artists at Willow Creek Community Church and told me this about the goal of the Passion Art Walk:

Post 365 - Christine Gunn-Danforth“It has become a wonderful way to engage the community around the story of Easter and what precedes the resurrection.  So, when they go to their local church on Easter Sunday, they’ll have been reminded of the full or at least a little bit more of the story of why they are celebrating.  The goal is also to give the community something to celebrate together and just kind of realize, as we come together this week, that there’s so much that we celebrate that is the same and that is truth and how it can impact our lives, give us hope and direct us to faith.”

For a preview of the Passion Art Walk and the works of art you’ll find at each station, look for a description of each commissioned work below as you chart their corresponding locations with this map.
