Barrinton 220 Schools Superintendent Tom Leonard has an annual tradition of visiting all 12 school in the district on the first day of the new academic year and, today, he did not disappoint! In fact, he took his tradition to a new level this year by allowing us to join him on his Barrington 220 tour today with a dusk until dawn ride-along filmed by 2013 BHS grad, Matt Weidner.
All 12 schools in the Barrington 220 district cover 72-square-miles, but Dr. Leonard has mapped out a course and sticks to a schedule that allows him to visit each campus before dismissal. He checks in with faculty and students to be part of the energy of the first day back at each school. “I have an exact route I follow – beginning with the high school at sunrise – knowing which roads to take and how long to spend at each stop so I can make the round-trip before the elementary schools dismiss at 3:40 p.m.”
In this video we also learn that, although he is fond of students in all grades, kids in one particular grade hold a soft spot in Dr. Leonard’s heart. Find out what grade that is and ride along in his dusk until dawn tour filmed and edited today and just released tonight by the Barrington 220 school district.
Dr. Leonard is also helping fire up students for the new school year by reminding us about the many school sporting events on the horizon.
“So much of our “small-town” atmosphere revolves around the Autumn gridiron season and the Barrington Community Stadium’s festive environment. This Friday night, Aug. 23, is the kick-off event of the fall football schedule. On behalf of Bronco Nation, please come for the traditional pep rally and Red/White Scrimmage. It is a great evening for families and children of all ages, made possible by the BHS QB and Bronco booster clubs. I hope you can attend. Click here for all the details before taking your seat in the bleachers.”
In the meantime, here are a few more images from Dr. Leonard’s First Day of the 2013-2014 school year.
