With Pączki Day coming up, I’m heading over to Spring Donut for our first Menu Monday of the month to pick up a dozen of these beloved Polish pastries to share with friends and family as we look forward to Easter.

Paczki Day

Spring Donut co-owners and sisters, Kasia Mierzeyewska and Emilia Augustyn have been baking up a storm to prepare for Pączki Day. They recently moved to the area from Poland and opened Spring Donut to serve their native country’s specialty baked goods, drinks and food.

In Poland, pączkis are eaten especially on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the last Thursday prior to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. They are also enjoyed on Pączki Day or Fat Tuesday, which is coming up on Tuesday, February 9th.

The traditional reason for making pączki was to use up all the sugar, eggs and fruit in the house, because their consumption was forbidden by Catholic fasting practices during Lent.

Kasia says they are offering traditional Polish pączki with Rose’s Marmalade filling and their pączkis are baked, not deep fried, so you can save a few calories. Pre-order your pączkis today at $1.80 each ♥ or pick them up, freshly made, on Pączki Day!
