Our Heinen’s “4PM Panic“ series features dishes that take the stress out of weekday meal preparation and this week’s recipe is easier than any other in the series so far. Knowing that I would be strapped for time but wanting a good meal for my family, I stopped by Heinen’s to see what they had in their meat department already prepped and ready to go. And there it was – the poster child of easy meals – meat on a stick! I purchased Heinen’s ready-assembled beef Kabobs. You can buy them plain or already marinated. Just so I’d be able to say I did at least “some” of the work I chose plain.
For this recipe, Heinen’s did most of the work in assembling the kabobs with beef, peppers, onions and mushrooms.
At home, I simply seasoned the kabobs with salt and pepper, placed them in a shallow dish and then coated with them with Italian salad dressing. I use Good Seasons Zesty Italian, but just choose your favorite dressing and you can not go wrong. Let the kabobs Marinate for 15 minutes, turning once or twice.
Note: Many people will argue that more time is better and, yes, that can be true if you are marinading for over 24 hours. Meat fibers start to break down in the first 15 minutes then, as you approach the 60 minute mark, they start to tighten up again. So a good rule of thumb is to marinate either for less than an hour or for more than 24 hours.
Once they’ve been marinated, place the Kabobs on the grill set to high heat. Sear on both sides quickly then turn down to medium indirect heat and cook about 2 minutes on each side for medium rare.
Serve with your families favorite sides. Buttered wide egg noodles, rice, potatoes, or the latest sides available at Heinen’s Prepared Foods counter. You choose. The veggies will be ready with the meat so no stress, you’re all set.
Enjoy!
