My all-time favorite musical is playing right here in Barrington this weekend and I can’t help but give the old “break-a-leg” to the cast and crew of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat over at Barrington Middle School – Station Campus.
If you love the music from “Joseph” as much as I do, chances are you’ll be able to sing right along with the performers tonight. I was in a production of this show back in the day and remember how hard it was to memorize the words to that song about Joseph’s coat. Take a look at these lyrics:
It was red and yellow and green and brown
And scarlet and black and ochre and peach
And ruby and olive and violet and fawn
And lilac and gold and chocolate and mauve
And cream and crimson and silver and rose
And azure and lemon and russet and grey
And purple and white and pink and orange
And blue
There was nothing more satisfying than to make it to “…purple and white and pink and orange and BLUE!” (insert deep breath here) Just making it to the end deserves the standing “O” in my book. The kids have worked hard and I hear their version is very colorful and a lot of fun.
If you’d like to come on out and support the kids and the school, they’d love it. These 130 6th, 7th and 8th graders have been rehearsing for this weekend’s performances since January and there are still tickets available for the 7PM shows tonight and tomorrow night or the matinee on Sunday afternoon at 2. Tickets are $10, but admission for seniors is FREE at the door for the Sunday performance.
