Dust off your derby hats and spruce up your seersucker suits, Barrington Children’s Charities’ second annual Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby party is coming up this Saturday and we’re all invited. Barrington Hills resident and Children’s Charities founder, Darby Hills (seen here on left), says there are fun new details in store for this year’s festivities, thanks, in part, to Kathleen McLaughlin, the local event planner behind the party.

Kentucky Derby-style hats in all shapes and sizes will be a big part of the entertainment at this Saturday’s event, held to benefit Barrington Children’s Charities and the national Blessings in a Backpack campaign. All proceeds from this weekend’s party will directly benefit Barrington School District 220 families who are part of the free and reduced lunches program…

Blessings in a Backpack provides students with a meal-filled backpack to last them every weekend of the school year.

The Run for the Roses Derby party starts at 3 p.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. at Millrose Restaurant in South Barrington this Saturday, May 5th.  The ticket price is $85 and includes an open bar and delicious food buffet to enjoy while watching the Kentucky Derby on the big screen.  They’ve also planned silent and live auctions, raffle prizes, dancing and a live performance by popular local band,  Exit 147. Auction and raffle prizes include tickets to the PGA Ryder Cup in Medinah, Illinois, a Lake Geneva overnight package, a party for 10 at Park Avenue Restaurant and Wine Bar in Barrington and tickets to the 2013 Kentucky Derby.  If you put a little extra effort into your outfit, you could also take home prizes that will be awarded to those who are “best dressed” at the party.

For a taste of some of the hats you might see at this year’s party, CLICK HERE to see a slideshow of photos I took at a Barrington Children’s Charities’ “Hat Pre-Party” which took place at the Barrington Saddlery.  Tempted? I know I am! So make sure to bring yourself and a date on over to the party and help the Barrington charity raise more than the $26,000 collected from last year’s party.  All money raised by Barrington Children’s Charities funds initiatives that address the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of children within our community.  So hats off to the mission, hats ON for the party and hope to see you there!

Run for the Roses will be held Saturday at Millrose Restaurant, located at 45 S. Barrington Road in South Barrington.  Tickets are $85.  Check out the Charity’s Facebook page too for some additional info and pictures from last year’s event.  For more information or to purchase your ticket, visit www.barringtonchildrenscharities.com.
