Spring Has Sprung Sprint in Lake Barrington

You don’t have to join “The Biggest Loser” to get fit.  There’s a great shape-up going down right in The Village of Lake Barrington.  The Village recently formed a “Community Health and Wellness Committee” and hosted their first-ever “Family Fun and Fitness Fair” last Fall. Their second event, the “Spring Has Sprung Sprint”, is coming up this Saturday and there’s still time to sign up.

The Spring Sprint is Lake Barrington’s first ever 5K walk/run and it’s part of the Village’s new initiative to encourage healthier lifestyles.  The race is for fitness, but it’s also a benefit to help feed local families in need.   Race organizers ask that you bring a bag of non-perishable groceries on Saturday to donate to the Cuba Township Food Pantry.  The first 50 people who bring groceries will receive a FREE Arbor Day tree seedling from Pasquesi Home & Garden, and 100% of the proceeds from the race will also go to the food pantry.

The 5K event starts at 9AM on Saturday at the Lake Barrington Village Hall, which is on the corner of Old Barrington and Kelsey Roads. If you’d rather walk than run, you can take part in a more leisurely “country walk” instead of the sprint. There will also be kids’ races, scavenger hunts, refreshments, prizes and other fun Arbor Day activities.

The cost to participate is $5 for individuals and $10 for families.  Bring your pets, strollers and wagons, too because there’s lots of trail to traverse.  The Lake County Forest Preserve’s Grassy Lake Trail is part of the route for this weekend’s race, with great views of sedge meadows, oak woodlands and the Fox River.

The race will happen, rain or shine. For more information and to register, call the Village of Lake Barrington at 847-381-6010.  All ages are welcome!

    • Thanks Sherry! One of the best things about writing these blurbs is that I’m getting to know so many nice people in the process. Thanks for your help yesterday. I look forward to finding an opportunity to meet you in person soon. Hope this weekend’s sprint is a great success!
