267. On The Menu: Ambrosia Gingerbread Houses

It’s the eve of Christmas Eve and and I’ll be cooking for tomorrow’s family festivities late into the night. With my favorite holiday foods on my mind and in my oven, I thought today would be the perfect day to debut a brand new feature we’ll regularly be running here at 365Barrington.com called “On the Menu”. To help showcase some of the finest culinary offerings here in Barrington, I’ll be talking to chefs at local restaurants to learn more about some of the most popular items from their menus. And I’m starting today with the amazing gingerbread houses you’ll only find at Ambrosia Euro American Patisserie in Barrington.

If you love hamburgers, the South Barrington Arboretum is THE place to be from 1-3PM today. The shopping center’s restaurants are hosting a two hour “Burger Tour” today where you can sample gourmet burgers, vote for your faves and help fight cancer while you’re licking your lips.…

As I research things to write about here at 365Barrington.com, I occasionally come across FREE things to do in Barrington. 183. Chessie’s 111 Grille Homecoming Weekend Party

The countdown to Barrington’s Homecoming Weekend has begun! Be sure to check back tomorrow because I’ll have the full rundown of events planned for parade and game day this Saturday. But I wanted to be sure to let you know about a huge Homecoming party happening all day Saturday and hosted by two BHS grads who own Chessie’s 111 Grille at The Ice House Mall.

It’s basically a big pre and post-party for Saturday’s Homecoming Parade and will take place in the restaurant’s parking lot at The Ice House Mall. There will be hundreds of Barrington High School students, alumni, their families, friends and neighbors there to celebrate. Parking is free, so you can pull in for the parade and stay for the party. And, just like last year, they’re going to be taking a big BHS alumni photo right at 12:15PM.…

180. Hold Your Breath for a Bears Win

There’s only one thing that die-hard NFL fans will be doing in Barrington tonight, and that’s tuning in for the Bears/Packers game at Soldier Field at 7:30. And if you’re married to a Bears fanatic like I am, you’ll be praying that they win because you know how a big loss can set the tone for the entire week or, let’s face it, the whole season.

172. Artists Exhibit at Barrington Gourmet Grill

There will be some beautiful artwork on display and for sale during a special artist exhibit open house today at Barrington Gourmet Grill and it’s for a great cause. They’ll be featuring the work of three artists today, Rainey Kellogg, Gloria Zucaro and Thia Malenchik who painted this piece.…

163. Try a Pie from Sergio’s Pizza

It’s the busiest night of the week at Sergio’s Pizza in Barrington. On a typical Friday night, the popular Barrington pizza spot serves up about 200 pizzas, and tonight, they have some big VIP orders to fill from the boy scouts, to the high school to Barrington Youth Football. Sergio’s owner, Tony Dioguardi, gave me a quick tour of the kitchen during crunch time today.

Sergio’s has been around in Barrington for the past 28 years, but Tony bought the business five years ago. He owned his own brokerage firm and decided he was ready for a change of pace……
