180. Ride Hogwarts Express & Tour the Train Lady’s Railway Gardens
The Train Lady is opening the doors of her private property tomorrow, June 23rd, to let the public view her amazing train garden railways and she has some exciting new highlights planned for this year. If you’ve never seen her gardens, you do not want to miss this awesome opportunity to experience something really special and only found right here in North Barrington. Train Lady, Elaine Silets, has been hosting tours of her property once a year since 1990, but this year she’ll be introducing us all to some very special guests.
Elaine designs model railroad gardens for a living and your jaw will drop when you see the garden scenes she’s created in her own back yard. It’s 10 luscious acres she calls Gardens at Wandering Tree.
The grounds are covered with gorgeous flowering gardens, laced with miniature tracks and spotted with whimsical model train vignettes.
One of many highlights is the Glorée & Tryumfant Garden Railway, complete with 6,000 square feet of waterfalls, streams, lakes, bridges, trestles, city and country scenes. And Elaine is raving about her roses this year, “I don’t know what happened to the roses, but I think they got hormones from this weather. They’re absolutely gorgeous!”
Her gardens are stunning, but one of my kids’ favorite features is Elaine’s train which carries children as passengers and circles around her drive. It’s called “Hogwarts Express” and tomorrow it’ll be the hottest ticket in town!
More details on her gardens in a minute, but first, here’s what’s new this year……

169. Be Inspired at Barrington Country Garden & Antique Faire
If you love searching for ideas to inspire your garden and one-of-a-kind treasures for your home, there’s one event in Barrington that you do not want to miss and it’s coming up this Friday and Saturday, June 15 & 16. Once a year, the owners of three outstanding Barrington estates open their properties to the public. Guests are invited to tour their remarkable gardens in a special 2-day event that helps poverty-stricken women and children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It’s called the Barrington Country Garden & Antique Faire and it’s one of the coolest and most unique things to do in Barrington.…

40. Visit The Train Lady’s Train Garden Masterpiece
Of all the things to do in Barrington, there’s one event coming up tomorrow that I’m so excited to check out with our kids. The famous “Train Lady” of North Barrington is opening the fabulous train gardens on her 10-acre property to the public tomorrow, June 25th. It only happens once a year and this will be my first time getting a close-up look at one of Chicagoland’s most unique and special garden properties, right here in our own back yard.
You have to see to believe the amount of work Train Lady, Elaine Silets, has put into her private Gardens at Wandering Tree. On her property you’ll behold The Gloree & Tryumfant Garden Railway, which includes 6,000 square feet of tracks, bridges, trestles and a waterfall where water drops into a stream which flows into a lake. Talk about a feat in intricate garden plumbing!…
