Anyone up for a FREE music festival this weekend? Prepare to flash back to the 90’s because Toad the Wet Sprocket is one of ten bands performing at the Arboretum of South Barrington’s two-day Block Party and Music Fest, which starts at noon tomorrow.
There’s a great lineup of performers for both Saturday and Sunday, but the headlining band is Toad the Wet Sprocket performing at 8:30 on Saturday night. Named in honor of a sketch by the Monty Python comedy troupe, this 4-piece band of Santa Barbara, CA high school cronies came to be known as Toad the Wet Sprocket in 1986. The band’s big commercial breakthrough came in 1991 (the year I graduated from high school) as the single “All I Want” became a Top 20 hit. Another single from Toad the Wet Sprocket’s Fear LP, “Walk on the Ocean,” also became a successful track for the band.
Here’s a look at the scheduled performers for the fest and an oldie but goodie by Toad the Wet Sprocket……
The Barrington Farmers Market returns for its 12th season today and that means our kitchens will soon be stocked with some of the freshest produce and treats you can find here in Barrington. It’s also a great excuse to share this almost edible image captured by local photographer, Anthony Tortoriello. Go ahead, take a bite!
There’s a great lineup of vendors for this year’s weekly market, including some new additions to the list of past favorite……

We have a libation theme going this weekend with a number of beverage-centered specials and events taking place in Barrington. With the first day of summer only five days away, merchants downtown are getting a jump start on the season by hosting the first ever Summer Wine Walk, a compliment to the well-attended Winter Wine Walk they hosted in March.
The FREE event will be hosted by participating businesses surrounding Cook and Station Streets from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th. Each merchant will have a wine map for you to grab so you can see what’s available for sipping before you move on to your next destination. Participating merchants will be offering a total of 14 wines to sample along with appetizers from Cooper’s Pizza. And to add a little summer sizzle, Park Avenue Restaurant will feature live music with Brian Saltzman from 3 to 6 p.m.
More merchants have joined the downtown wine walk for tomorrow’s event. Here’s a look at who’s participating and what you will enjoy as you power your way through the town……
We’ve waited all year, but the day has finally come! The 9th annual season of Cruise Nights and one of the most popular weekly attractions returns to downtown Barrington TONIGHT. The Village of Barrington’s first Cruise Night of 2012 was rained out last Thursday, which was supposed to be “Chevy Night”. So get ready for a double header tonight with Chevys and Exotic Cars taking the Cruise Night spotlight.
There are 13 Thursday Cruise Nights scheduled to take place in Barrington this summer and each week has a different theme. Fans vote for their favorite cars in the weekly theme and the winners get “People’s Choice Award” plaques, a picture of their car on the Village of Barrington’s website and bragging rights for the entire month! To get revved up for the new season of Cruise Nights, I picked a good old song with some great driving lyrics as a little background music for this post. Can you guess what it is?
I’ve been drivin’ all night, my hand’s wet on the wheel.
There’s a voice in my head that drives my heel.
It’s my baby callin’, says I need you here.
And it’s a half past four and I’m shiftin’ gear…
To get your motor running, be sure to play the video below before your read on……
There’s a new community dance craze taking over the streets of Barrington. “Flash Mobs” have become the latest rage. If you watch Glee, follow YouTube or are a hip and happening reader of 365Barrington.com, I’m sure you know all about them ;). For those of you who’d like a little background, Flash Mobs are “large groups of people who assemble suddenly in public and perform a dance or unusual act for a brief time, then disperse.” The performance is supposed to be a secret, but a little birdie has let me in on what could be Barrington’s next Flash Mob.
Barrington’s last Cruise Night of the season is happening downtown on Cook Street tomorrow night, starting at 6:30. My source tells me that, if you’re there at around 6:45, you might just get Flash Mobbed, like this one that happened a couple of weeks ago……Continue Reading
Don’t let summer sneak away without taking part in one of Barrington’s most popular parties of the season. The 18th Annual Duck Race and Pool Party is happening tomorrow and there are hundreds of rubber ducks resting in Barrington tonight before they take the plunge during tomorrow’s big event.
With more than 150 prizes on the line, the stakes are high for tomorrow’s duck races. Your kids will have a blast at this end-of-summer bash which doubles as a fundraiser to help Illinois children facing serious illness. Here’s how it works……
We just spent Fourth of July weekend celebrating our country’s independence, but today’s a day to celebrate all countries and cultures without leaving Barrington. International Fest will be a day full of fun for all ages with vendors, performers and attendees from far beyond the Barrington area. There are activities planned for kids, teens and adults along with music from around the world.…Continue Reading
Be sure you’re cocked, locked and ready to rock when you head to the Barrington Brat Tent today. There’ll be lots of Country heat on hand tonight when Smokin Gunz takes the stage. The band will be tonight’s finale performance after a full day of family fun at the Barrington 4th of July Weekend festivities.
Smokin Gunz are otherwise known as “Chicago’s Hardest Working Country Band”. They’re a Top 40 Country band from the suburbs of Chicago, they have a reputation for getting the audience on their feet and you can learn more about them at SmokinGunz.net.
But the Smokin Gunz are just one of many great activities scheduled for the Brat Tent today……Continue Reading
We’ve been waiting since last fall for this!!! The weekly Farmers Market returns to Barrington for its 11th season this Thursday. So get ready for some freshly popped kettle corn, the balloon man, the lemonade guy and the return of some of your favorite farmers. Plus, prepare to meet some brand new vendors this year. To get into the spirit of the season, I found some of my favorite farmers market photos taken by Barrington photographer, Anthony Tortoriello.
I also caught up with Farmers Market co-chair, Margaret Myren, earlier this week to get the scoop on which vendors are coming back and who will be new to the market this year. You’ll be excited to find out what she had to say……
