We have a libation theme going this weekend with a number of beverage-centered specials and events taking place in Barrington. With the first day of summer only five days away, merchants downtown are getting a jump start on the season by hosting the first ever Summer Wine Walk, a compliment to the well-attended Winter Wine Walk they hosted in March.
The FREE event will be hosted by participating businesses surrounding Cook and Station Streets from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th. Each merchant will have a wine map for you to grab so you can see what’s available for sipping before you move on to your next destination. Participating merchants will be offering a total of 14 wines to sample along with appetizers from Cooper’s Pizza. And to add a little summer sizzle, Park Avenue Restaurant will feature live music with Brian Saltzman from 3 to 6 p.m.
More merchants have joined the downtown wine walk for tomorrow’s event. Here’s a look at who’s participating and what you will enjoy as you power your way through the town……
For the first time since publishing her children’s book, Princess Shayna’s Invisible Visible Gift 15 years ago, Tower Lakes author, Sheila Glazov, will have the honor of watching a musical rendition of the story brought to life on stage this Sunday night. Performers with Lake Zurich’s Trilogy School of Performing Arts have prepared a special interpretation of the book, which is a “family fairy tale” about a young princess created to help children of all ages build self esteem.
The musical version of Princess Shayna’s Invisible Visible Gift was adapted shortly after Sheila published the book’s second edition to include paragraphs about bullying in schools. She wrote the story as a “fairy tale version” of her popular adult book examining behavior and relationships called, What Color is Your Brain? A Fun and Fascinating Approach to Understanding Yourself and Others.…Continue Reading

The “Sing!” vocal talent competition will shine the spotlight on choirs, choruses, gospel singers, glee clubs and vocal groups right here in the Barrington area and throughout the country. The groups must consist of 3 to 25 performers, with at least two vocalists. They’ll compete to win $5,000 along with a singing, songwriting and recording session with a two-time Emmy Award Winner. Now that’s something to sing about!
Deer Park Marketing Director, Konda Dees, says, “Sing! combines the growing trend of online, viral performances with the thrill of live music to create an opportunity for groups in our community to showcase their talents…..And who knows, we may provide a “big break” to a talented, undiscovered group!” They’re accepting group entries online now through May 31st, so here are the details……Continue Reading
