Bakers throughout Barrington have been busy all week preparing for tomorrow morning’s 38th Annual Community Church of Barrington Cookie Walk. If you want to see what “selling like hot cakes” looks like, don’t be late. Last year, they sold out of cookies in just over an hour. So be sure to show up early because goodies found at the Cookie Walk make THE BEST “homemade” holiday gifts for neighbors. They look just like you baked them yourself. But …. shhh … don’t tell anyone I’ve let you in on this sneaky cookie tip. I wouldn’t want my own neighbors to know my little holiday secret ;).
Here’s how it works, for $10, you can buy a “one pound” box and fill it with your own hand-picked assortment of cookies in all shapes, sizes and colors……Continue Reading
He’s cold. He’s cranky. And he’s coming soon to a theater near you! Ebeneezer Scrooge and the cast of A Christmas Carol will take the stage at Prairie Middle School this weekend and I hear eighth grader, Scott Jonske, plays one mean miser!
Because we could all use a close encounter with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come from time to time, the students at Prairie Middle School have been working hard to prepare for this weekend’s performances. They’ve practiced their lines, fine-tuned their adaptation and hope we’ll come out to see the shows this Thursday, Friday or Saturday. After all, it’s just not Christmastime until you hear at least one “Bah Humbug!”…
It’s the eve of Christmas Eve and and I’ll be cooking for tomorrow’s family festivities late into the night. With my favorite holiday foods on my mind and in my oven, I thought today would be the perfect day to debut a brand new feature we’ll regularly be running here at 365Barrington.com called “On the Menu”. To help showcase some of the finest culinary offerings here in Barrington, I’ll be talking to chefs at local restaurants to learn more about some of the most popular items from their menus. And I’m starting today with the amazing gingerbread houses you’ll only find at Ambrosia Euro American Patisserie in Barrington.
Ambrosia’s gingerbread houses are like edible works of art. They’re so masterfully crafted that Ambrosia’s owners, executive pastry chef, Richard Rivera and his wife Debby, only make 12 to 20 of these houses every year.…Continue Reading

One of Barrington’s best holiday secrets is happening tomorrow morning and, if you’re like me, you don’t want to miss it. I’ve always dreamed of baking batch after batch of Christmas cookies to give as homemade gifts to friends and neighbors. But this only happens in my Martha Stewart fantasy world. Well, thanks to a talented bevy of baking ladies at Community Church of Barrington, my fantasy will be realized this year, or at least it’ll look that way ;).
The Community Church of Barrington’s 37th annual Cookie Walk is happening tomorrow, December 11th, from 10:30AM until 12:30PM, but doors will open at 9AM for those who want to pick up their tickets early.…Continue Reading
Last night, School District 220 gave us all a new reason to celebrate the benefits of living here in Barrington. The school board voted to accept a $1.5 Million 5-year federal grant that will fund Chinese language instruction in grades kindergarten through 5. That makes District 220 the ONLY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ILLINOIS to receive federal funding this year for Chinese curriculum. As the mother of two young children in Barrington and as a Realtor who helps people buy and sell homes here, I think this news is totally 真棒!…Continue Reading
Barrington veterans sent us all a powerful message today without even speaking a word. They communicated with a solemn display of American flags flying in the icy wind at the corner of Main and Cook Streets.
The flags and a simple message were set up early this morning, a small request for us all to remember this date in history.…Continue Reading

Even if you try to ignore it, there is no escaping the fact that Christmastime is here. “The Holiday Lite“ has been broadcasting radio holiday tunes since well before Thanksgiving, Christmas commercials have taken over the TV and holiday lights are popping up on homes throughout Barrington. So I decided to just give in to the holiday hype and give our weekly Wednesday photo contest a yule-tide twist for the month of December. Between now and Christmas, we’ll be accepting nominations here at 365Barrington.com for the best Barrington Christmas lights. And you don’t have to decorate your home like Clark Griswold to win this contest!
If you or someone you know goes all out with their Christmas decorations or lights up their home beautifully, we’d love to hear about it. There are FOUR winning categories in this contest:…Continue Reading
